It is all about being visionary

Is it too much to ask that I expect leadership form my boss? I don’t want her to send me an email that the content has something to do with the dismantled drinking fountain on main floor. I want her to discuss the vision of the new Dean and how this might affact us and how we should plan to align our goals with his.

Things that really matter

I remember once when I was in school, couple of friends suggested skipping the class and going to see a movie. Of course the nerd in me couldn't handle the stress of missing a lecture. So I announced that I wouldn't go with them but I would gladly go to class and share my notes with whoever likes to have them later. I don't recall the content of that lecture nor do I recall the course but I never forget that I didn't watch 'the Banu Ordibehesht' with my friends.

Photo from here . “God puts rainbows in the clouds so that each of us- in the dreariest and most dreaded moments- can see a possibility of hope.” Maya Angelou  Some time ago, I had the pleasure of attending one of Maya Angelou’s talks. I was very excited about listing to her. When I bought the ticket, I told to myself that was an early birthday present for me. I went for the talk to be inspired and to figure out why this woman was so successful as she was. Although I never regret going to that talk (since I learned one or two things), the talk was not as inspiring as I hoped. I had heard better talks before. She is not one of those people that I call gifted public speakers. She was witty and smart but didn’t really do it for me. However, what I learned was that I can be a rainbow in someone’s cloud.
