At the Concert

On Saturday night, in celebration of historical performances at the university, the music alumni group presented a classical music concert. The music was uplifting and heart-warming. Also, I couldn’t help noticing the elderly gentleman sitting at the far end of the stage, playing the violin. His calm manner and grey hair made me wanted to play too. Sure enough, he was a retired prof.
It was a good night.

Things that really matter

I remember once when I was in school, couple of friends suggested skipping the class and going to see a movie. Of course the nerd in me couldn't handle the stress of missing a lecture. So I announced that I wouldn't go with them but I would gladly go to class and share my notes with whoever likes to have them later. I don't recall the content of that lecture nor do I recall the course but I never forget that I didn't watch 'the Banu Ordibehesht' with my friends.

"Be a rainbow in someone’s cloud"

Photo from here . “God puts rainbows in the clouds so that each of us- in the dreariest and most dreaded moments- can see a possibility of hope.” Maya Angelou  Some time ago, I had the pleasure of attending one of Maya Angelou’s talks. I was very excited about listing to her. When I bought the ticket, I told to myself that was an early birthday present for me. I went for the talk to be inspired and to figure out why this woman was so successful as she was. Although I never regret going to that talk (since I learned one or two things), the talk was not as inspiring as I hoped. I had heard better talks before. She is not one of those people that I call gifted public speakers. She was witty and smart but didn’t really do it for me. However, what I learned was that I can be a rainbow in someone’s cloud.
